Wycombe
clash vital for Barnes' men

John
Barnes may be playing down the importance of tonight’s game at
Wycombe, but whichever way you look at it, it is a six-pointer.

Barnes
claims it isn’t at that stage yet, but when you consider that
defeat will put us five points behind the Chairboys – the team
immediately above us – it could have a massive physiological
effect on the players. This is a huge game, no two ways about
that. But then, most will be until Tranmere can pull themselves
out of the mire they find themselves well and truly entrenched
in.
Are Wycombe
as bad as Rovers then?
Peter
Taylor – yes, the one who managed England briefly – led Wycombe
to promotion last season from League Two. Since stepping back up
to the third tier, Wycome have found it a little harder to
adjust, although it's hard to criticise when they are one of the
22 teams in the league with more points than ourselves.
Currently sitting one place and two points ahead of Barnes' men,
their only win of the season came at home to Bristol Rovers in
late August. They've only conceded three goals at home this
season, but have also netted just four in front of their own
fans.
Some names
of note in the Wanderers squad
Taylor
has been able to bolster his squad with some experience, the
likes of former Stoke and Leeds man Michael Duberry has come in
at centre half to join the likes of Chris Westwood and Tom
Doherty, both experienced Football League campaigners (perhaps
best noted for spells at Hartlepool and Bristol City
respectively).
Former
Yeovil man Matt Harrold provides some height upfront alongside
the pacey Chris Zebroski, on-loan Kevin Betsy and former Hull
City man Stuart Green will likely provide the width.
Team news
Neither team have many injury worries, Matt Harrold the only
doubt for the home side whilst Rovers have only Bas Savage
sidelined.
