Cold
snap continues to disrupt Rovers
Friday 8th
January, 2010
By Richard Ault
As
the cold-snap continues to grind the UK to a halt, so to does it
disrupt Tranmere's fixture programme.
Tranmere's match at Gillingham on Saturday has been called off
due to the adverse weather. With snow and ice covering the
Priestfield pitch, the club asked for volunteers to help clear
it. However, with the conditions making roads and pathways
around the stadium impassable, they had to admit defeat and call
the game off.
At the
time of writing, only two games are still set to take place in
League One this weekend, those being at Leeds and Norwich.
The rest have already been postponed.
Rovers
also saw their Boxing Day fixture away at Oldham called off,
that game has now been re-arranged for Wednesday 20th January,
2010.
Tranmere
have now taken steps to give next weeks home game with Yeovil
Town the best possible chance of going ahead, switching the game
from Friday night back to Saturday with a 3pm kick-off. It
is hoped that playing the game on the Saturday afternoon will
allow ground staff more time to make the pitch playable.
The club
are yet to announce when the cancelled home match with Leeds
United will go ahead after the original game was postponed due
to both clubs involvement in the FA Cup.
