Masters stars ready for home advantage
Thursday 20th August, 2009
By Richard Ault

Tranmere’s highly-successful Masters team will take to the carpet of the Echo Arena again in little over two weeks time as they do battle in the Grand Finals.

The Tranmere Masters team celebrate winning the 2009 Mersey MastersAfter making their debut in the Masters Football tournament last year, Rovers won the Merseyside competition before reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Final event in Birmingham.

This year though, Rovers will be the “home” side in the main event. Having strolled past Liverpool, Everton and Wigan once again in the regional finals, they return to the Echo Arena in Liverpool looking to take the UK title, starting with a quarter-final tie against Celtic.

The likes of Achterberg, Santos, Barlow and Irons will all line up for Rovers again and should have plenty of support in the passionate Merseyside crowd.

It will be the fourth Masters event to be held at the 10,000 seated Echo Arena, and is also the 10th anniversary UK Final. Adam Benson, Commercial Manager for Masters Football, spoke to us about the final and the difference home advantage could make for Rovers this year.

He said: “The Masters Football Grand Final is the culmination of 8 competitive regional heats which have been running throughout June and July.

“The Echo Arena in Liverpool is a superb venue, worthy of hosting the 10th anniversary UK Final. We have held three other events at the Echo and the local fans have always created a fantastic atmosphere, something which will be invaluable to the Tranmere team if they are to improve on their showing at last year’s Final.

“The players always mention how home support is a real boost for them so it’s important that Tranmere fans come down on the day and give their team the support they deserve”.

We're aiming to get a few extra fans in there to support the boys too.  Having teamed up with Masters Football last year to bring you pitch-side reports and reaction from the press area at the Grand Final in Birmingham, this year, to celebrate the launch of the new Cowsheds website, we are going to give you the chance to win one of several pairs of tickets.
