Sordell set for debut in crunch match
Friday 5th February, 2010
By Richard Ault

Tranmere will likely give a debut to young striker Marvin Sordell against Oldham on Saturday after he joined on loan from Watford this week.

Sordell has been tipped to go straight into the starting line-up for the match at Prenton Park after Les Parry was impressed by the player in training during his first days with the club.  Having chased the youngster for a couple of months, Parry may now thrust him straight into the side for the vital relegation six-pointer.

Rovers have the chance to move out of the bottom four for the first time since mid-August if they can beat the Latics and results elsewhere go their way.  Brighton, who sit just outside the relegation zone - two points ahead of Tranmere - are in action away to Leyton Orient.

Despite recent history between Oldham and Tranmere suggesting the match has now become a bit of a derby grudge match, Les Parry is not about to let the occasion affect the way he prepares his side for the game.

Parry said: "I'm not a great fan of worrying about teams. I've seen managers who play local sides or return to their old team and they change everything that week.

"They do more training, more set pieces and are a bit on edge in their team talk and I've always thought that was a mistake.

"Every game is worth three points and this week we have prepared no differently."

Team news

Left-back Aaron Cresswell will come back into the side in place of the suspended Zoumana Bakayogo.  Bas Savage is probably not quite ready to feature despite another appearance for the reserves this week, Alan Mahon will be amongst the subs also.
