Bore
thaw! Yeovil match off as Britain melts

Tranmere's game with Yeovil Town tomorrow (Saturday) has been
postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
As Britain
starts to thaw out from the ice and snow that has enveloped the
country for the past week, the amount of water it is leaving
behind is now producing new problems. With reports of part
of the M53 flooded this morning, it was always going to be touch
and go what the Prenton Park playing surface would be like.
A statement
the club released this morning informed that referee Graham
Salisbury had opted to call the match off now. With
standing water on the pitch already, and with more rain expected
throughout the day and into the night, he has probably made the
sensible decision.
Rovers
Chairman Mick Horton said: “We are really disappointed the game
won’t take place but with heavy rain forecast overnight and
tomorrow, can fully understand the referee’s decision. Our
ground staff have worked exceptionally hard this week in
clearing the snow from the pitch and surrounding areas but we
have been beaten by the rain that fell during the night and this
morning.
“There is only so much any club can do and the bad weather we
have had recently has affected virtually every team in the
country. Hopefully the weather will soon improve and we can
start training and playing as usual.”
Rovers last
league game was back on December 28th, a 0-0 with Carlisle at
Prenton Park. The club are now facing a hectic schedule of
midweek fixtures, with re-arranged games with Oldham, Gillingham
and Leeds already in the offing.
